As I was driving the school-run this morning, the radio announcer proclaimed that today is “Blue Monday”. This is a scientific fact based on scientists doing some kind of science.
According to Wikipedia, the formula goes like this:
where weather=W, debt=d, time since Christmas=T, time since failing our new year’s resolutions=Q, low motivational levels=M and the feeling of a need to take action=Na. ‘D’ is not defined in the release, nor are units.
I thought instead of feeling scientifically blue – I will focus on all of the good things given to me in life: a great family, good health, a library card, new book, laptop, the internet, coffee, comfy pants. Simply visualizing gratitude and communing with the universe, as one does.
With this good feeling in percolating in my heart and a skip in my step, I began my errands.
After successfully completing my to-do list(without getting lost), I stepped out of the store and took a big breath of relief – promptly freezing all of my nasal hairs. Realizing I was trying to convey my gratitude to the universe while basically standing in the world’s largest outdoor deep freeze, I began scurrying to my car and just about tripped over this:
I’m taking it as a sign – It’s Blue Monday – science has spoken.
I’m spending the rest of the day on the couch – we’ll talk tomorrow.
