Winter Solstice

Published December 21, 2013 by inanortherntown

It’s the shortest day but it seems to be lasting forever.

We drove 440 kms yesterday.

Today, our goal is to drive 1,000 kms. We’re booked into a motel with an indoor swimming pool & water slide as well as a 24-hour Starbucks. It’s win/win for everyone.

Still, all things considered, the road trip is going well. Lots of coffee, endless games of Candy Crush and listening to recorded books. The weather/roads are cooperating. All passengers (human & canine) are behaving and Mr. Northern-Town has had no reason to pull over and threaten to sell us to gypsies.

For the majority of the day – the scenery has been just like this:

With the occasional glimpse of these:

The Canadian Rockies are gorgeous.

Now it is pitch black and the promise of water slide and hot tub are propelling us onward.

  • Was so excited to read your latest posts ! Yes, she’s back !!! I chuckled when you mentioned Candy Crush. Little Malcolm and Duncan introduced me to Candy Crush and I’m hooked. Mal said he was so proud of me for getting to Level 65. Duncan, at 3, is kicking butt at Level 36. Malcolm plays any level as long as he wins even if its over and over. Losing is not an option for him. My family and I are heading to Maui for Christmas. Leave Monday for a week. It will be nice to get away from Christmas memories this year — too painful. Merry Christmas to you and yours. Enjoy your stay in above freezing temperatures. Love, Darlene

    • Merry Christmas Darlene! Much love to you and yours. I hope there will be glimmers of hope, joy and beauty for you this season.

PS: Am slightly obsessed with Candy Crush. It’s 100% addicting. AND I also hate to lose 😉
